Katreena Hayes-Wood

I love helping people discover their purpose in life. It doesn’t matter what you do, but it does matter that you love what you do and feel like what you do makes a difference!

If you could spend an afternoon with me, I’d probably talk your ears off! Having said that, it won’t surprise you that I earn a living standing in front of people flapping my jaws. Now, don’t get me wrong my jaw flapping is helping people discover their career and life success. I am reminded every day that what I do really does help people.

I could use this web real estate to tell you my life story, but I don’t think you really care about the fact that I was born on Moody Air Force base in Georgia in June of 1959, that I grew up in Colorado and New Mexico, or that I graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1981. You may not care that I’m married to my bestest buddy Jeff (for 18 years and happily counting) and that we have four children and two grandchildren, with a new grandbaby due in September 2010. So, I’m not going to bore you with those details…!

What I will tell you is that I’ve been in the business of helping people with their careers since 1985 (that’s 26 years for those of you who are slow at mathematics, like me). Every year has been a humble learning experience for me too. I take the responsibility of my career to heart, which is why I am passionate about what I do and why the tag line for my company, Strive For Students, is “Putting Passion to Work.”

I have several workshops that I teach, some of which include my newest, Finding Your JOY (lots and lots of fun…if you love music and like to dance with bullfrogs); The DreamBuilder™ Workshop; The Gift, defining the purpose of your life; and many others on life and career management and success strategies.

I’ve done conference keynote presentations and breakout sessions; I teach summer youth work readiness training and I’ve developed and delivered many, many staff development workshops. I’ve written three books and five career development workbooks as well as co-produced a career tools DVD. My first book, Help! I Need a Job is a best-selling book on interviewing.

On a personal note, you might find it odd that I have a fascination (almost a quirky interest) in number combinations. For example, I love double numbers, particularly the number 11. The strangest pattern (this is kind of weird), is that my husband is 11 years older than me; he graduated from high school in 1966, me in 1977. His youngest daughter was born in 1977 and my youngest son in 1988 (they are 11 apart in age). On the day we were married I was 33, Jeff 44, my dad 55, Jeff’s dad 66 and my grandmother 77…these odd, eccentric, coincidences with double numbers do not end here…but, again I’ll save you the boredom.

I love to meet new people, but I hate big, sweaty crowds. I hate slow traffic, but love to drive to and explore new places. I love to read, and enjoy with great pleasure, used bookstores. I collect ladybugs (which is why I was married on Halloween dressed in a ladybug costume). I also collect vintage/antique children’s books. I love Mexican food and reading paranormal romances (love Sherrilyn Kenyon Dark Hunter series the best). My favorite color is orange (most of the time) and my get-out-of-jail-free card is Matthew McConaughey (you can ask my husband about this one…lol).
